Genealogical Mycelium (2023)

Research action with photographic documentation

Mixed-media works
Mycelia are liminal beings, guardians of the space between death and rebirth, who encourage us to investigate reality through rhizomatic perspectives. Like a mycelium, every human being exists in connection with the environment and the beings that surround them, branching out through physical space and bringing situations and people into communication, feeding on them, transforming them and reproducing them all at once.

From these premises, a research project in two acts took shape. Through archives and interviews, the burial sites of my mother's ancestors were traced and then mapped in a series of photographs. Some of the stories that emerged from this research were later reworked into pictures made with materials drawn from the homes and the stories of the people to whom the works are dedicated.
